Material Needs has been established as a small business for 25 years and is located in the High Street in Burnham on Sea, parallel to the seafront. In December 2022, the business expanded to include Threads of Minehead, also a long established haberdashery, supplying textile and craft materials to the surrounding areas of Exmoor, West Somerset, and North Devon.
We're a haberdashery, craft, and wool shop and are well known in the area to knitters, crocheters, dressmakers, embroiderers, and crafters alike as supplying a fantastic range of crafting resources. So whether you're a seasoned crafter or just starting a new hobby, we'll have something for your next project.
The business has been run by Nicky Garland and Nick Hebborn since 2016 and we are both passionate about developing our team and range of regular and innovative products. That’s why we have the largest range of knitting and crochet yarns, patterns and accessories, fabrics and haberdashery in Somerset. Our ranges include yarns and patterns from King Cole, Rico, Cygnet, West Yorkshire Spinners, Sirdar, Stylecraft, Bergere de France, James C Brett, Wendy, Peter Pan and Wool and the Gang. We have fabrics from Moda, Tilda, Liberty, Timeless Treasures, Michael Miller, Nutex, Riley Blake, Stella and many more.
We have sewing patterns from Simplicity, New Look, Butterick, McCalls, Tilly and the Buttons, Liberty and Merchant and Mills.
We also stock a wide range of fabric basics, including plain cotton, ripstop, waterproof fabrics, polycottons, linens, jersey, sweatshirt fabrics, calico, craft fabrics, and a range of curtain fabrics.
Our haberdashery ranges offer everything from Gutermann and Madeira threads, needles and sewing basics to scissors and curtain making. We also have several thousand (yep, we really mean thousands) different buttons to choose from and they’re sold individually so you can buy the number you actually need.
We are open seven days a week in Material Needs and Monday-Saturday in Threads, so pay us a visit in person or through our website and Facebook pages
